The Museum of Education at Visaginas Secondary School “Gerosios Vilties”
The museum of education started its creation due to initiative of the previous headmistress of the school O.Lachotskaja and the efforts of the majority of the teachers. The foundation of the museum was timed to the 600 anniversary celebration of the first Lithuanian schools' formation. The museum opened its doors for a number of visitors on February, 14th, 1988. Pupils, parents and teachers of the school actively took part in the formation and design of the museum.
The following exhibitions are presented in the museum’s exposition:
1. Lithuanian school and its development.
2. Primary school and its development.
3. Primary school.

5. The history of our school.
The museum's walls are decorated with stands, which present students' works made on the lessons. There are wooden exhibitions, natural material's pictures, masks, paintings, knitted things in it - in general there are more than 280 exhibits. There are also some school accessories of the past: first Lithuanian language textbooks, ABC-books and even school uniform, footwear and school bags. the same things were used by our grandfathers and
grandmothers. It is also possible to see some such unusual things for us as a device for making calculations ,calculating machines, old vinyl. Not so long ago all of these things were used at the lessons...
The museum contains the annals of the school's life's history from the moment of its foundation: the 1st part of the annals tells about the development of the second secondary named after Snechkus school from 1983 to 1989, the 2nd part continues a narration about the school's life's from 1990 to this day.
The detailed description of the school's life is kept in the thick volumes, the reference of first graduates to all the students, who should also leave the walls of the native school in future, uncountable photos from numerous celebrations.
A book of our school pupils’ successes and achievements is also kept in the museum: such pupils became famous for their excellent studying, sport achievements and public activity. You will also have a possibility to get acquainted with a collection of local and republican newspapers’ cuttings with numerous articles about our school, albums, devoted to our school’s graduates. Each final-year a class traditionally presents its ribbon from the Last Bell holiday – there is a collection of such ribbons in our school’s museum.
Visiting the museum is supposed by the school’s curriculum and is put into practice during the lessons of History and Ethics; pupils have a unique possibility to have excursions and meetings with the most famous people of our town.
